India is set to receive three new spy planes under a 'Made in India' project. The proposal to acquire these three new spy planes, equipped with the capability to intercept enemy communications and signals, will be discussed by the defence ministry next week, sources told India Today TV.

The proposal will be executed through a partnership between the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Air Force (IAF), they added.

This project aims to provide the Indian Air Force with a robust capability in the region, giving it an edge over China and Pakistan.

Additionally, the IAF plans to purchase six new indigenous Netra-I surveillance aircraft to enhance its surveillance capabilities along the borders with China and Pakistan. The Netra-I Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft program is based on the Brazilian Embraer aircraft.

Already in possession of two Netra-I aircraft developed by DRDO, the Air Force will procure six more as part of a revival of the program.

"According to the plans, the six new aircraft will be manufactured in India by the DRDO and supplied to the Air Force as part of a project valued at over Rs 8,000 crore," official sources said.
