Spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs Randhir Jaiswal denied French journalist Sebastien Farcis's claim that he was "forced to leave" the country.

Farcis had alleged that he was forced to leave India after over 13 years, after his work permit was denied by the home ministry.

Responding to this, Jaiswal said that Farcis holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card and he needed permission or a work permit to carry out "journalistic activities".

"He applied for the permit in May 2024 and his application is still under consideration. The question of his leaving the country is a decision for him to take... His work permit application is still under consideration. He had reapplied it here in May 2024," he added.
