Calangute: The Candolim primary
health centre
(PHC) in
show cause notices
to two
construction sites
, has sought to know within five days why the construction licences of both sites should not be revoked for failing to take adequate precautions against
vector-borne diseases
.
Health officer Dr Roshan Nazareth said the PHC had already disconnected the electricity connections and revoked the health no-objection certificates (NOC) of both sites on Wednesday.
“The action was taken for not following conditions of the NOC with regarding to controlling vector-borne diseases,” he said.
Construction sites have been identified as primary danger zones for dengue and
malaria
due to water stagnating in storage tanks and pits, which can become breeding spots for mosquitoes. All construction workers have to also obtain
health cards
immediately on arrival at the site concerned, for which they have to undergo a health check up at the PHC. Failure to do can result in revocation of permissions. Last month, the PHC had issued show cause notices to a large number of construction sites/houses that were found to be
mosquito breeding
hotspots.
