NEW DELHI: For the first time, question papers for
recruitment
of
Central Armed Police Forces
constables (GD) will be set not only in Hindi and English but also in 13 Indian
regional languages
, benefiting lakhs of aspirants from non-Hindi-speaking states.
These languages include Assamese, Bengali, Gujarat, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri and Konkani. The first Constable (GD) examination for jobs in CRPF, BSF, ITBP and CISF in 15 languages, to be conducted by Staff Selection Commission (SSC) from Feb 20 to March 7, will see 48 lakh candidates taking it across 128 cities.
A senior government officer told TOI that the move was an initiative of home minister Amit Shah to increase participation of youth in central forces and also promote regional languages. "Offering this exam in 15 languages will improve regional candidates' selection prospects and offer them equal opportunity at employment, while also increasing the exam's reach among candidates from across the country," the officer said.
Shah posted on X, "It is a decisive step towards realising PM Modi's vision to facilitate the faculties of our youth force with the power of their mother languages."
Constable (GD) examination is one of the flagship tests conducted by SSC. The home ministry had last year signed an MoU with SSC to facilitate conduct of the test in 13 regional languages in addition to Hindi and English.
