Illinois bill looks to enshrine CCP in state law

In early February, lawmakers in Illinois introduced a bill that seeks to make CCP a part of the state’s real estate licensing laws. Introduced by state Rep. Lilian Jiménez (D), H.B. 3452 seeks to amend the state’s Real Estate License Act of 2000.

Under the bill, which has been in committee since March 21, brokerages in Illinois would be required to market properties for sale on public platforms within one day of entering into an agreement with a seller, unless the seller signs an opt-out form. The form would be provided by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Jiménez serves the state’s 4th District, which includes portions of the Chicago metro area, told RealEstateNews.com that one of her goals for the bill is to promote fair housing and a buyer’s ability to access all homes that are for sale.

Zillow and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, which are both vocal supporters of CCP, are partnering with Jiménez on the bill.

Jeff Baker, CEO of Illinois Realtors, said the bill is not part of his trade group’s legislative agenda.
