'I was convinced that...': Virat Kohli on cricket journey

NEW DELHI: Virat Kohli, the iconic Indian cricketer and former captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), recently shared insights into his deep-rooted passion for cricket, emphasising his unwavering commitment to the sport.

"My only tip would be you first figure out how much you like to play cricket. And if it is something that makes you wake up in the morning and go back to playing cricket, then you should definitely give it everything you have and enjoy it mostly, but you have to be absolutely committed to be able to make it a profession, if you're really interested," the 35-year-old batsman said on Star Sports.

Kohli's devotion to cricket extends beyond the international arena, as evidenced by his long-standing association with RCB in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Since the inaugural season in 2008, Kohli has been an integral part of the RCB franchise.

However, amid the brouhaha of IPL, Kohli recalled how he would want to pick the bat to hit the ball.

"From the time I have any understanding of me as a human being, that (cricket) is the only thing I experienced that I used to love, just picking up the bat and hitting a cricket ball. I was convinced that I am going to play for India and win matches one day," added the former India captain.

RCB faced a setback in their recent encounter against Mumbai Indians, where Kohli's performance fell short of expectations. Despite his individual brilliance in the IPL 2024 season, Kohli's struggles against MI raised concerns about RCB's overall performance.
