Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) two title wins in the Indian Premier League (IPL) came under the captaincy of

in 2012 and 2014, and the KKR icon has put the team well on its way to a third possible trophy in the ongoing season - this time as the team's mentor.
IPL 2024: Results | Points Table
KKR top the IPL 2024 table currently with 16 points from 8 wins in 11 matches, and their thumping 98-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in the last match reflects the aggressive intent Gambhir used to have as a player.
But while Gambhir is proud of playing an aggressive brand of cricket during his entire career, he has made a candid admission about doing certain things that he shouldn't have done.
"Sometimes you need to have an aggressive approach as a leader if you want your team to be aggressive," said Gambhir talking to Sportskeeda. "Sometimes you need to do things you didn't want to. When I look back at my career, I have done some things I shouldn't have done. But I believed if I didn't get aggressive and didn't lead by example, my team won't play aggressively."
"I feel every player and every leader has the right to express themselves on the field. A player should not be judged just by how he is on the field, but how he is off it should also be looked at," the former India opener added.
Until last year, Gambhir was the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants, but shifted to KKR in a similar role ahead of the 2024 edition.
