NEW YORK (PIX11) – A 34-year-old woman is detailing her harrowing experience of being stabbed in a random spree across New York City.
"It felt like a punch to the side," she told PIX11 News.
The woman was stabbed from behind just after midnight on Tuesday near 158th Street and 134th Avenue in Springfield Gardens, according to the NYPD. She was attacked after she got off a bus while heading home from work, authorities said.
"He followed me, and as I was approaching my house, he stabbed me,” the 34-year-old victim said. “I really got lucky with the layers that I had on. I didn’t know the knife was that big. And seeing pictures come up in the media, I saw that it could’ve done a lot more damage.”
Another four people would also be attacked, according to the NYPD. Police said Jermain Rigueur, 27, was arrested Wednesday in connection to the spree.
Rigueur allegedly used a hunting knife in the attacks, NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said. He works as a greeter at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, according to authorities.
