HYDERABAD: The city's
Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
(RGIA) has been put on
high alert
after the airport authorities received a string of
anonymous mails
warning of an RDX attack at the airport.
The first such email came on Thursday morning. Soon after that the CISF, that takes care of the airport security, swung into action along with RGI airport police, multiple wings of Telangana police and teams from central agencies, and carried out extensive searches and confirmed the mail to be a hoax.
As the security agencies heaved a sigh of relief, the airport authorities received another mail on Thursday evening with a similar threat, following which the same exercise was repeated.
After completely sanitising the airport, that threat too was declared a hoax.
But airport authorities were shocked with a similar mail dropped into their inbox on Friday. Security agencies suspected it also to be a hoax, but declared the same only after a full security drill. Meanwhile, RGI airport police have registered a case against the unknown sender. Deputy commissioner of police, Shamshabad, K Narayana Reddy told TOI that they are on the lookout for the person who has sent these hoax mails.
