HOLLIS, Queens (PIX11) – The never-before-told origin story of legendary hip-hop group Run-DMC will be center stage in an upcoming documentary.
"Kings from Queens: the Run DMC Story" tells the story of how Joseph "Rev Run" Simmons, Darryl "DMC" McDaniels and Jason "Jam Master Jay" Mizell first met in Hollis, Queens before they made their mark on hip-hop.
The documentary also highlights the fatal shooting of Jam Master Jay. He was shot point-blank in the head while he was on a couch playing video games in his Jamaica, Queens recording studio on Oct. 30, 2002.
Mizell's godson, 40-year-old Karl Jordan, Jr. and childhood friend, 59-year-old Ronald Washington, were arrested in connection to his slaying. Prosecutors said Mizell was ambushed and executed by the two, whom he was supporting at the time.
"Kings from Queens: the Run DMC Story" will premiere on Feb. 1 on Peacock.
