essentially cluttering users’ inboxes as the government looks to tighten the rules to stop companies from spamming users.
Companies are increasingly using WhatsApp for communication, including ticket confirmations, transaction details, promotions, and more. This replaces their previous reliance on SMS for these purposes.
WhatsApp now provides users with tools to be more in control of who’s chatting with you.

This is why a business can’t have an ongoing conversation with you unless you’ve opted in to chatting with them.
What to do when you receive unwanted messages from business

When a business first messages users, they will have three types of interactions to choose from:
Block: To add the business to the Blocked contacts list. When users block a business, they will not be able to message you directly. However, they will still have access to their business profile and catalogue.
Report: Users can also report a business they think is violating

To continue chatting with the business, users can choose this option. Users can also opt in by sending the business a message.

How to opt out of marketing messages from a business

Some businesses may provide an option to opt out of receiving marketing messages by tapping the Opt out of marketing messages button in chat with the business. Tapping this button will notify the business that you would like to remove your WhatsApp number from their marketing mailing lists.
In case this doesn’t happen, you can always use the block option. If you block a business from sending you messages, you will also be blocked from sending messages to the business.
