Sharing images on
can be frustrating when the app compresses them, particularly for
high-quality photos
with intricate details and textures. WhatsApp's default image compression significantly reduces the file size, resulting in a loss of finer features. However, in August 2023, the app introduced the 'HD photo' feature, allowing users to share photos in high resolution and preserving more details compared to the compressed versions.
How to send HD-quality photos on WhatsApp to family and friends
Step 1: Open WhatsApp on your mobile and choose a chat thread.
Step 2: Tap on the attachment icon, indicated by a paperclip on Android and a '+' on iOS, located at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3: Pick the image you want to share.
Step 4: In the subsequent step, you'll find an HD icon at the top, alongside other options like rotate or crop.
Step 5: Click on the HD button to send high-quality pictures, and then tap ‘Send’.
If you happen to receive an HD photo, you'll notice an HD label in the bottom-left corner of the photo, signifying its high-resolution quality. If you're on a low bandwidth connection and want to conserve data, you can select the quality for each photo individually.
