On Android:
- Open the Google Messages app.
- Find the spam conversation you want to report.
- Touch and hold the conversation in the list.
- Tap on "Block & report spam".
- Confirm your choice by tapping "OK".
By doing this, you not only block the sender but also report the conversation as spam to Google.
This helps improve Google's spam filters and protects other users from similar scams.
On web:
- Go to messages.google.com on your computer.
- Sign in to your Google account.
- Find the spam conversation in your list.
- Click on the More options button (three vertical dots) next to the conversation.
- Select "Spam & blocked".
- Find the contact you want to report and click "Block and report spam".
As on Android, this action both blocks the contact and reports the conversation as spam to Google.
Some important things to keep in mind before reporting spam:
- You can also report spam messages within a conversation. Open the conversation, long-press the specific spam message, and select "Report spam".
- Don't forget to delete the reported conversation after reporting it.
- Be cautious if a message asks for personal information or money. These are common red flags of spam or phishing attempts.
- Regularly update your Google Messages app to ensure you have the latest spam filters and security features.
