We all snap countless pictures nowadays, and before you know it, your storage is full and your phone is sluggish. But don't worry, there's a solution!
Google Photos
is a fantastic tool that can help you declutter your phone storage while still keeping your precious memories safe.
Here's how:
Backup and free up
- Open the Google Photos app and tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
- Select "Photos settings" and then "Back up & sync."
- Make sure "Back up & sync" is turned on. This ensures your photos are safely stored in the cloud, freeing up space on your phone.
- Tap "Free up space." Google Photos will identify and show you photos and videos that can be safely deleted from your phone because they're already backed up to the cloud.
- Review the photos and tap "Free up" to remove them from your device.
Use "Suggest deletion" tool
- The "Suggest deletion" feature identifies blurry, similar, or outdated photos, offering you the option to delete them or archive them (move them to the cloud without taking up space on your phone).
- To access it, go to the "Library" tab in the Google Photos app and tap "Utilities."
- Select "Suggest deletion" and review the photos. You can individually delete them, delete all suggestions, or move them to the archive.
Archive large videos
- Videos can take up a significant amount of storage space. Archive your larger videos to the cloud by tapping and holding a video in the Google Photos app, then selecting "Move to Archive."
Utilise the "Search" function
- Google Photos' powerful search function helps you find specific photos quickly, like those of a particular person, place, or event. This can help you identify and delete duplicate photos or unwanted ones.
Utilise "Memories" to rediscover and declutter
- Google Photos automatically creates themed "Memories" collections, bringing together related photos and videos. This can help you rediscover old photos and decide if you want to keep them or delete them.
