How to create GIFs on Android

  • To create a GIF from your short videos:
  • Open the chat with the person you'd like to send the GIF to.
  • Tap Pin Icon.
  • Tap Gallery.
  • To send a short video as a GIF, pick a video that's under six seconds and tap GIF in the top right corner. If you select a longer video, trim your video to under six seconds using the slider, then tap GIF.
  • Tap Send.

How to create GIFs on iPhones

The method is the same on iPhones, however, users have to choose different icon in iPhones.


  • Open the chat with the person you'd like to send the GIF to.
  • Tap the ‘Plus’ icon.
  • Tap Photos or Photo & Video Library.
  • Choose the type of media you'd like to send:
  • To send a live photo as a GIF, tap and hold any live photo, then tap Select as GIF.
  • To send a short video as a GIF, pick a video that's under six seconds and tap GIF in the top right corner. If you select a longer video, trim your video to under six seconds using the slider, then tap GIF.
  • Tap Send.

  • Open WhatsApp.
  • Open an individual or group chat.
  • Tap Stickers > GIF.
  • Next, you can tap:
  • Search for a specific GIF.
  • Recents stickers to see your recently used GIFs.
  • Favorites to see your favorite or starred GIFs.
  • Select and tap the GIF you want to send.
  • Tap Send.
