With the constant influx of messages, keeping your
Gmail inbox
organised is essential for productivity and efficiency. One powerful feature that Gmail offers for maintaining a clutter-free inbox is the "Archive" function. Archiving emails doesn't delete them; instead, it moves them out of the primary inbox, freeing up space and reducing visual noise.
Here's a guide on
how to archive emails in Gmail
:
On your computer:
- Open Gmail and navigate to your inbox.
- Select the email(s) you want to archive. You can do this by clicking the checkbox next to each email or by clicking the checkbox next to the "Select all" box at the top.
- Click the "Archive" button (the box icon) at the top of the page.
- (Optional) If you want to archive all emails in a specific label or folder, click on the label or folder, then click the "Archive" button.
On your Android device:
- Open the Gmail app on your Android phone or tablet.
- Open the email you want to archive.
- Tap the three dots icon in the top right corner of the screen.
- Select "Archive" from the menu.
On your iPhone or iPad:
- Open the Gmail app on your iPhone or iPad.
- Swipe right on the email you want to archive.
- Tap the "Archive" icon that appears.
Important things to keep in mind:
- You can also archive an email while you're reading it. Click or tap the "More" menu and then select "Archive."
- You can view all of your archived emails by clicking on the "All Mail" label in the left-hand pane of your Gmail inbox.
- You can add multiple emails to the archive at once by selecting them and then clicking or tapping the "Archive" button.
- Archived emails don't count towards your Gmail storage quota. However, they are still searchable.
- You can unarchive an email by clicking or tapping on the "Star" icon next to it and then selecting "Remove star."
