US-based
Silver Airways
used Instagram to inform passengers of its sudden decision to cease all flight operations. The
Florida regional carrier
advised customers booked on flights for June 11 not to go to the airport. Silver Airways announced the shutdown of its services in an Instagram post, stating it had agreed to sell its assets to a buyer who chose not to continue flight operations. This move is part of the airline's debt restructuring efforts, the company noted, as its holding company ceased Silver's operations in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. In 2011, the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale-based airline began operations with hubs in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando. The company also operated a subsidiary airline, Seaborne, which ran seaplane services to the islands of St. Croix and St. Thomas.According to flight tracking site FlightAware, Silver Airways cancelled 52 flights. Moreover, industry analysts have also indicated that the airline's shutdown was not unexpected.
