Houses of 4 more MLAs torched in Manipur, agitators attempt to storm CM N. Biren Singh's ancestral residence

IMPHAL: Violent protests engulfed Manipur's Imphal Valley after the discovery of six bodies, including women and children, in Jiribam district. Mobs set fire to the homes of multiple lawmakers, blaming militants for the killings.
The protests began Saturday after authorities found the bodies, allegedly abducted and killed by militants. Angry crowds targeted the residences of ten lawmakers, including Manipur PWD Minister Govindas Konthoujam and BJP MLA Y. Radheshyam.
"The legislators and their family members were not at home when the angry mob stormed their residential compounds, vandalised properties and set the houses on fire," police reported, noting the houses were partially damaged.
Protesters also attempted to reach chief minister N. Biren Singh's ancestral home but were stopped by security forces using tear gas and rubber bullets. The situation remained tense Sunday, with a curfew imposed and internet services suspended in several districts.
Authorities airlifted the bodies of ten individuals, killed in a separate incident involving a gunfight with security personnel in Jiribam, to Churachandpur. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
