NEW DELHI: Former India cricketer

Aakash Chopra

has shared an optimistic view on

Rishabh Pant

's participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel, Chopra conveyed that Pant's recovery from a severe injury sustained in a

car accident

has been nothing short of miraculous.
Chopra expressed his awe at Pant's expected comeback, stating, "There are filtered reports that Rishabh Pant will be seen playing this year in the IPL, which is absolutely phenomenal. It is miraculous, considering where he came from and where he has reached."

Reflecting on the gravity of Pant's accident, Chopra emphasized the importance of life over cricket, sharing his initial relief at Pant's survival.
"Cricket is a very small part of life. It's very important but cricket is there only if there is life. The sort of accident it was, I was just happy that he was alive," Chopra remarked, highlighting the challenging journey of recovery that Pant has had to endure.
Looking ahead to the IPL, Chopra believes that Pant will not only play but also lead the

Delhi Capitals as their captain. He pointed out Pant's crucial role in the team's lineup, especially given the composition of the squad.
"He will bat and captain. With batting, he solves an extremely important problem for the Delhi Capitals because he can bat slightly down the order as, unfortunately, all their good players are top-order batters," Chopra added, underlining Pant's versatility and leadership qualities.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had previously provided a positive update on Pant's condition in July, noting that he had "commenced batting as well as keeping in the nets" and made "significant progress in his rehabilitation."
Pant has been a key player for the Delhi Capitals since 2016, amassing 2,838 runs in 98 matches at an average of 34.61 and a strike rate of over 147. His record includes a century and 15 fifties, making him one of the most explosive and valuable players in the IPL.
