THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Trevor Hughes was only steps away from entering his home on Fowler Ave in the Bronx early Saturday morning, after working at an event as a DJ.
But a dispute over a vehicle blocking the driveway where he would park his car ended up with the 49-year-old man and father of four being shot to death.
“He was a sweetheart, he was a really good person, he was the best,” said his sister-in-law.
She showed PIX11 News the driveway where Hughes was supposed to park that night as he normally did.
“He sat outside with his girlfriend in the car and he waited for them to come out, when they finally walked past he asked them to move the car and they were saying that it wasn’t a driveaway and that’s how everything started,” she said.
Police arrested 46-year-old Lavar Davis. He is charged with second-degree murder. Prosecutors tell us Davis has a criminal record including a conviction and served more than 24 years in state prison.
Hughes’ family believes this could have ended differently. They say he called 311 and 911 to report the vehicle obstructing the driveway.
“If they would’ve ticketed the car this whole thing could’ve been avoided if. If they would’ve towed it and everything. We would have him here right now.” Added the sister-in-law.
Authorities say Davis’ girlfriend, 43-year-old Fallon Wise was with him. She is charged with assault and harassment for attacking Hughes’ girlfriend.
“She was taken to the emergency room she was evaluated and things, but she is ok,” concluded the sister-in-law.
Davis is being held without bail and is due back in court on Friday. His girlfriend was released on her own recognizance with a court date next month.
