Harlem grandma struggles to get hot water fixed in NYCHA apartment

HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) -- A Harlem great-grandmother said she hadn’t taken a hot shower in five months because there was no hot water in her bathroom.

Deborah Walker is beyond frustrated. She said she struggles to bathe every day. Walker complained to management about the lack of hot water in her bathroom but said nothing was done.

Walker lived at the Drew Hamilton Houses in Harlem and contacted PIX11 News on Facebook for help. She has hot water here in her kitchen but not in her bathroom. Where she said she needed it the most.

Several times a day, she showed PIX11 how she had to carry this heavy container of hot water from her kitchen to her bathroom. She said she does it just so her twin 10-year-old granddaughters can bathe.

She said she was told a plumber can’t come until Feb. 23. This retired home health care aide and great-grandmother said she wants one thing. After PIX11 left, she said six NYCHA workers came to her apartment and immediately started working on the problem.
