NEW DELHI: Team India is set to kick off their

ICC T20 World Cup 2024

campaign against Ireland on Wednesday at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
Led by captain

Rohit Sharma

, who steered the team to the ODI World Cup final last year, India aim to overcome the disappointment of that loss to Australia and start afresh in this mega event.

The 36-year-old Rohit is determined to clinch an ICC trophy, an achievement that has eluded India since 2013.

India's last triumph in the T20 World Cup came in its inaugural edition in 2007 under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, defeating Pakistan by five runs in the final, marking India's sole title in the tournament's history.

Since their victory in 2007, India have reached the final just once in eight editions, ending as runners-up in the 2014 tournament after a defeat to Sri Lanka by six wickets.

Ahead of their opening match, India's star all-rounder

Hardik Pandya

shared a video of his training on his social media account, accompanied by a single-word message.
"Focused," Pandya wrote.

India are going into the tournament after playing a warm match against Bangladesh at the same venue. Rohit's men crushed Bangladesh by a huge margin of 60 runs.
Pandya looked in ominous touch in the warm-up game as he whacked an unbeaten 40 runs off just 23 balls, including two boundaries and four sixes. He also claimed one wicket in the match.
