NEW DELHI: With just a couple of wins and 7 defeats in 9 matches,
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
have had a nightmare Indian Premier League season so far and are on the verge of an early exit from the playoffs race.
The high-profile batting line-up not rising to the occasion, coupled with a weak bowling unit have led to RCB's downfall.
The franchise recently snapped out of a horrendous six-game losing streak after beating Sunrisers Hyderabad at their home on Thursday.
With the playoffs slot looking a distant dream for the Bengaluru-based side, spin great
Harbhajan Singh
on Friday called out a major overhaul at the franchise with more focus on picking quality bowlers.
Pointing out that big batting names won't win you every game, Harbhajan emphasised that the RCB thinktank have to come up with something different next IPL auction.
"Bilkul! Auction me baithe hain jo log, mujhe ye samajh nahi aata aap log jab auction karne jate ho, aap dekhte ho ki aap logon ko ek balanced team chahye. Aapko heavy ballebazi hamesha match nahi jitati. Aap jab tak aachhe gendbaz nahi pick karange, tab tak aap jitange nahi. (Definitely. The people who sit there at the auction have to ensure they have a balanced team. Batting heavy side will not always win you matches. Till the time you do not pick good bowlers, you are not going to win titles). Harbhajan said on Star Sports.
“RCB ke lihaaz se, unko management me ek Indian rakhna zaruri hai jo inn pore maidaanon ko, Indian youngsters ko samjhe. Jaa ke unke matches (domestic) dekhe aur unko select kare team me. Aur gendbazi aachhi select karni zaruri hai. Batting unki hamesha tagdi rahi hai but kahin-na-kahin wo maar khate hain to gendbazi me. (From RCB management's perspective, they should have an Indian in the management, who understands Indian youngsters. He should go and see their performances (Indian talents) in domestic cricket and make sure they are picked. It is very crucial to have a good bowling attack. They have always had outstanding batting line-up but it is their bowling which has let them down), he added.
RCB currently sit at the bottom of the points table with just 4 points after 9 games.
