GHAZIABAD: GMC is planning to levy an

annual fee

on

commercial establishments

such as

coaching centres

, gymnasiums, and so on. The fee will range from Rs 2,000-20,000.
The civic body is likely to bring 13 more commercial set-ups under the ambit of a

trade licence

, officials said. The proposal, in the discussion stage right now, will be incorporated into the by-laws if the board passes it.
“Earlier, there were 39 commercial activities that required a trade licence to operate. Over the years, several commercial establishments like gymnasiums, beauty parlours, spas, coaching institutes, and branded showrooms have come up, which are still not in the ambit of trade licence,” said an official from GMC.
“The state government had requested a list of such activities along with a proposed annual licence fee, which has been finalised. A proposal will be tabled before the GMC board for approval. Once approved, it will be implemented,” the official added.

Over 1,200 such activities are going on within the municipal limit, and a zone-wise survey is underway to identify them.
The trade licence rates have been finalised at Rs 5,000 for AC

gyms

and Rs 2,000 for non-AC gyms. For beauty parlours without and with ACs, it is Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,000, respectively. Spa centers will be charged an annual fee of Rs 3,000.
Coaching institutes and offices of chartered accountants will be charged Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,000, respectively. Jewellery showrooms will have to pay Rs 5,000, while branded apparel and sport-wear outlets will have to pay up to Rs 4,000.

Sports academies that offer a single sport will have to pay up to Rs 10,000 annually, while sports academies offering multiple sports will be required to pay up to Rs 20,000 annually.
Officials said this will boost GMC revenue and help keep a database of such commercial establishments.
