Darul Uloom

Deoband, one of the largest Islamic seminaries in the country, expressed its displeasure over "performing puja" at Gyanvapi mosque complex and the "swift move of the Varanasi administration to place

idols

following the local court's order".
Darul Uloom VC, Abul Qasim Nomani, who was responding to the permission granted for 'puja' at one of the 'tehkhana' in the mosque complex, said on Saturday, "It is very sad for Muslims that the administration got idols placed in the

mosque basement

overnight and started puja. The administration acted in haste, especially since a week's time was given by the court." Nomani added that "without giving any time to the other side to appeal, the administration placed the idols in the basement". The Darul Uloom VC also appealed to "people of India to pray for Gyanvapi mosque" and refrain from holding any kind of demonstration or protest on this matter. Meanwhile, Jamiat Ulema i Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani said, "They should not have allowed this very sensitive matter to escalate." Mohd Dilshad
