Delhi HC seeks CBI's response on CM Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea

NEW DELHI: The

Delhi high court

on Friday issued notice to the

CBI

on a plea moved by Delhi chief minister

Arvind Kejriwal

seeking bail in a corruption case related to the excise policy matter.
The HC has sought the central probe agency's response in connection with Kejriwal's plea.
The HC has fixed July 17 as the next date for hearing.

Kejriwal has already contested his arrest in the CBI case, with his plea presently awaiting a decision from the high court.

Previously, the ED arrested Kejriwal on March 21. Although he was granted bail by the trial court in the money laundering case on June 20, the order was subsequently stayed by the high court.
The contentious excise policy was annulled in 2022 following a directive from the Delhi lieutenant governor, which called for a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities and corruption in its formulation and implementation.

Both the CBI and ED allege that irregularities were made in the modification of the excise policy, and undue favours were purportedly granted to licence holders.
