NEW YORK (PIX11) – Free cone day is almost here, promising an even sweeter treat in April.
On April 16, Ben & Jerry’s will throw its annual Free Cone Day – offering free scoops of any flavor at “Scoop Shops” across the country.
And this year, Ben & Jerry’s is going for a new record-breaking 1 million scoops eaten, according to the chain.
As such, customers “are encouraged to get back in line as many times as they'd like,” a representative of Ben & Jerry’s said.
The tradition has been around since 1979, but took a four-year break before 2023. Last year, Ben & Jerry’s came close to the 1 million scoop mark doling out over 970,000 scoops.
"It was nothing short of amazing to see our fans back in our shops in their full Free Cone Day glory," Ben & Jerry's CEO Dave Stever said. “But we know together with our fans we can break 1 million scoops."
The first Free Cone Day was a celebration of the company’s founder making it through their first Vermont winter as a small ice cream business.
