Govt floats tender for Divar island eco-tourism ops

Panaji: The tourism department has floated a tender for the development, operation, and maintenance of eco-tourism activities on Divar island in Tiswadi taluka. It intends to develop the project site, located within the Goltim-Navelim panchayat jurisdiction, as a hinterland destination, along with eco-cottages and amenities catering to wellness, nature-based entertainment and leisure needs of

visitors

.

The project is proposed on 7,697sqm of land owned by the department.
The project will have at least 20 Swiss cottage tents or eco-cottages, or a mix of both, each of at least 40sqm.
According to the tender document, the licensee will have to construct spa and wellness facilities to accommodate 20 people, which can be used for all activities such as a reception area, men’s and women’s locker rooms, dry/wet treatment rooms, treatment showers and baths, and treatment waiting areas.
The licensee will also have to develop a meditation centre along with an outdoor amphitheatre of a minimum of 300sqm and having a minimum capacity to accommodate 20 people, which can be used for all activities such as yoga, meditation, etc.

A restaurant/food and beverage

space

with a seating capacity of 75 persons, with amenities such as a kitchen, bar counter, and reception, is also part of the project.
The licensee is permitted to establish an information counter, along with a nature education and interpretation centre within the designated area. Furthermore, the licensee has the authority to create and promote nature-based tourism activities in the project site and its vicinity. These activities may include nature trails, hiking trips, cultural events, bird-watching tours, and religious excursions.
Additionally, the licensee is allowed to develop a ‘day visitors zone’, which will consist of various amenities such as picnic shelters or

gazebos

, a well-maintained garden or landscaped area, seating arrangements, and a wayside amenities-cum-food court.
