NEW DELHI: Amid the opposition’s demand for a statement on the security breach from Union home minister Amit Shah,

Congress MP

Gurjeet Singh

Aujla

, one of the first MPs to overpower the assailant who jumped into the Lok Sabha Wednesday, said the government should refrain from politicising the

issue

and respond to the opposition’s demand for a discussion.
The Amritsar MP had snatched the smoke canister from the hands of one of the youth who jumped into the House and ended up with a scalded, yellowed palm.

Speaking to TOI, Aujla said the entire opposition bloc is keen to work with the government to strengthen the security apparatus within Parliament.
He added that it was impotant, on issues of security, to avoid politicising the issue, or linking it to any caste or community.

“This trend of linking people to communities or castes and doing politics over it is absolutely wrong. I am glad that the people who were apprehended in Wednesday’s security breach were not linked to any minority community because then, the incident would have been blown out of proportion completely. It is impotant, on issues of security, to avoid politicising the issue,” Aujla said.
The Congress MP also alleged that a huge controversy would have erupted if the youth had entered Parliament on the recommendation of an opposition MP. “This is a dangerous trend that must stop. This country belongs to everyone and each one of us has to work to strengthen it,” he said.
