Google’s big AI push continues with the world’s most popular browser getting a brand new feature.
Google Chrome
has unveiled a new
experimental AI
feature designed to help users
write better
. Dubbed "Help me write," this tool leverages the power of Google's
Gemini language models
to assist with various writing tasks, from
crafting concise emails
to composing compelling reviews.
Launched with Chrome M122, "Help me write" currently operates in English on Macs and Windows PCs in the US To activate it, users simply need to enable the "Experimental AI" option in Chrome's settings and right-click within any text field on a webpage.
“The tool will understand the context of the webpage you’re on to suggest relevant content. For example, as an avid gardener, if I’m writing a review for garden shears, Chrome will pull out relevant details about the item from the page to support my recommendation so it’s more valuable to other hobbyists,” said Adriana Porter Felt, engineering director, Google.
The AI analyses the surrounding webpage to grasp the intended purpose and tone of your writing. Whether you're composing a product description or a restaurant review, "Help me write" tailors its suggestions accordingly. However, it's important to remember that "Help me write" is still in its experimental phase. It may not always generate perfect suggestions, and it's crucial to review and edit its output before hitting publish. Additionally, it's currently limited in scope and language availability. It’s still not clear when the feature will roll out to other regions as Google hasn’t commented on that. Having said that, Help me Write in Gmail, Docs, and other Google productivity apps has been rolled out to all regions. So one can expect it to reach the Chrome feature to all regions soon.
