To improve its Password Manager and to compete with leading third-party counterparts, Google is set to introduce a native
CSV import option
. The move aims to simplify the transition for users, allowing the direct import of login credentials from other password managers seamlessly.
The upcoming enhancement was discovered by Google app expert @AssembleDebug, who highlighted the tech giant's efforts to streamline the import process. Currently,
Google Password Manager
users are redirected to the web version for imports, involving additional manual steps. The imminent integration, however, will embed the import tool directly within the Password Manager's settings on Android.
Screenshots shared by @AssembleDebug reveal that users can activate the import tool through hidden flags. The process involves selecting a CSV file from the device's storage, with the subsequent screen displaying the number of passwords eligible for import. While specific passwords cannot be viewed presently, the spacious import page hints at potential future enhancements.
The existing CSV import functionality in the web version of Google Password Manager will now seamlessly integrate with Google Play Services, offering features like autofill and ensuring a cohesive user experience across devices.
