Good Samaritan rescues teen from fire on Long Island: police

SAYVILLE, N.Y. (PIX11) -- A man jumped into action on Wednesday and saved a teen from a burning residence on Long Island, authorities said.

Heavy smoke erupted from a home located at 376 Astor Drive at around 2 p.m., authorities report. Authorities said Richard Mosback grabbed a ladder to rescue a teen from the second floor of the home.

The boy was safely escorted out. Mosback was taken to a hospital where he was treated for smoke inhalation.

A dog was later found dead inside the house. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to be non-criminal, police said.
