NEW DELHI: In what came as a pleasant surprise, Lucknow Super Giants boss
Sanjiv Goenka
, skipper
KL Rahul
and head coach
Justin Langer
addressed the players and support staff in an emotional meet-up after the franchise's Indian Premier League 2024 campaign came to an end on Friday.
For LSG, who needed a victory over Mumbai and other results over the weekend to go their way to make an improbable entry into the playoffs, finished the season at the sixth spot as their net run rate only improved marginally to -0.667 after Friday's win.
Wrapping up the season with 7 wins and equal number of defeats under new head coach Langer, LSG had a see-saw run that also saw Goenka's alleged 'public reprimand' of skipper Rahul after one of their defeats.
Coming together after the end of the season, Goenka lauded the efforts of the team, saying that they had some wonderful moments and played together on field as a 'united family'.
Rahul also thanked everyone for putting up a united show throughout the season, lauding the efforts and the energy put behind by everyone.
In the clash against Mumbai, Nicholas Pooran's whirlwind 29-ball 75 covered for skipper KL Rahul's sedate 55, providing a much-needed impetus to LSG's impressive total of 214 for 6.
MI finished at 196 for six in 20 overs to hand LSG an 18-run win.
With the defeat, MI also finished at the bottom of the table, this IPL season.
