BIJNOR: A 5-year-old girl was dragged from a village road and mauled to death by

stray dogs

Bijnor

, reports Harveer Dabas.It happened in Islam Nagar mohalla of the district's Kiratpur town on Saturday evening, police said.
Police added the girl was walking near her house and on hearing her cries, her family members rushed to save her.

She was taken to Kiratpur's community health centre in a critical condition from where she was referred to another medical facility where she died.
Notably, stray dogs have killed 12 people in the past 18 months in Bijnor and

Amroha

districts.
Last year, 5k administered anti-rabies injections

The latest attack comes after an 8-year-old boy was mauled to death by dogs in Amroha on March 4. He had gone to a farm with his father where the latter stayed back and the boy left for home when the pack of dogs surrounded him on a deserted stretch.
Kiratpur's Nagar Palika executive officer, Megha Gupta, said on Sunday, "We are trying to remove stray dogs from the area so that they do not attack other children."
Besides, a 4-year-old girl was killed by strays in Bijnor on Feb 20. Two other girls -5 years and 7 years old -who were accompanying her with food for their father to a farm were critically injured. Last year, 5,000 people were administered anti-rabies injections in Bijnor, but there’s been no respite from the menace.
