Get a Flaco the owl tattoo for $150

NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – If you’ve been looking for a way to immortalize Flaco, the late owl that was freed from the Central Park Zoo, an opportunity awaits in Greenpoint.

Tattoo artist Duke Riley will give out $150 flash tattoos of the beloved owl that died in February from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at East River Tattoo.

Cause of death revealed for Flaco the owl

The tattoo shows Flaco as he is often depicted, perched on a branch in Central Park. Under Flaco sits his name in a thin, capitalized font

Riley teased the design in February, and dozens of people took to social media to show their interest.

Thursday’s Flaco-lovers will join a handful of other locals who expressed their love for the bird with ink. Another artist, Calicho Arevalo, has also designed Flaco tattoo templates and got one himself. His tattoo, placed on his left arm, depicts the owl flying away from his branch in New York City.

“It’s such a powerful moment,” Arevalo told PIX11 at the time. “I see the bird as a parallel to me.”

Others are looking to commemorate Flaco’s flight with a memorial statue in Central Park

“We would love to see a statue of Flaco added to the park to commemorate his legacy - and to remind us all to keep a curious, respectful eye out for the myriad wonderful beings with whom we share this space,” said petition organizers Brandon Borror-Chappell and Mike Hubbard.
