COIMBATORE: Officials seized

ganja

from an inmate in the

Coimbatore Central Prison

on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off about the illegal possession of ganja by inmates, a team led by

jailor

S Sivarasan conducted a search in the tower block on Thursday. They checked convict

prisoner

K Jayaraman, 23, of Tirupur district who had hidden eight gram of ganja in his rectum.

They retrieved the ganja and interrogated Jayaraman. He told the officials that he had received the ganja from convict prisoner Parthasarathy, 31.
The officials questioned Parthasarathy who told them that he had received the contraband from chief warder Jayachandran. Information was conveyed to superintendent of prison Senthilkumar who began an inquiry with the chief warder.

Jailor Sivarasan lodged a complaint with the Race Course police who registered a case against Jayaraman under sections 353 of the Indian Penal Code, 20 (b), (ii) (A) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Section 42 of the Prisoners Act on Thursday evening.
