NEW DELHI: India D captain Shreyas Iyer grabbed the headlines for all the wrong reasons on Friday during the
Duleep Trophy
match against India A in Anantapur.
As Iyer came out to bat following the dismissal of Atharva Taide, spectators couldn't help but notice his unusual choice of attire - sunglasses. The image of Iyer sporting the shades quickly spread across social media platforms.
Iyer's time at the crease was short-lived, as he was dismissed without scoring a run after facing just 7 deliveries.
The fans, who had initially praised his "cool" look, quickly changed their tune and began mocking the right-handed batsman on social media.
As the second day's play drew to a close, Iyer once again found himself in the spotlight, but this time it was for the benefit of his team.
In a bid for a crucial breakthrough, Iyer, with sunglasses intact, brought himself into the attack and struck first ball to dismiss India A captain Mayank Agarwal for 56.
Agarwal spooned a simple return catch to Iyer which eventually became the last ball of the day.
Skipper Agarwal and Pratham Singh both scored fifties, propelling India A to 115/1 in their second innings. This performance solidified their dominant position against India D as the second day concluded.
In their first innings, India A posted a total of 290 runs. They then proceeded to dismiss India D for 183, securing a substantial lead of 107 runs.
Devdutt Padikkal
, the India D batter, fought valiantly, scoring an impressive 92 runs, but his efforts were not enough to prevent his team from conceding the lead.
