Football game turns tragic as tin cover collapses in Thane; 9 children injured

Nine

children were injured after a tin cover built above the terrace of a building fell in Thane city on Friday night, according to a civic official.

The incident occurred in the Upavan area. Five of the injured children, who were playing football in a nearby turf ground, sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to Bethany hospital.
The children are students of Class IX and X, the civic official added.

When contacted, Vartak Nagar police station officials said, "We did not have details about the incident."
Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik reached the hospital and met the injured children.
"17-18 children had gone to play football on the campus. Due to the wind, a roof from another society fell on the children. During this seven children were injured. Out of which 4 children are fine and 3 are in critical condition. I have discussed this incident with the Chief Minister (Eknath Shinde). He said that the family should not face any kind of problem. They (injured) are being treated well," he said.
