NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) -- A flood advisory was issued for New York City and parts of New Jersey Monday afternoon as the tristate area prepared for a Memorial Day storm.
The flood advisory went into effect around 2 p.m. and is expected to last through 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
Severe rain was expected to cause flooding in the following areas: Bergen, Essex and Hudson counties, all five boroughs of New York City, Nassau County and Westchester.
The region is expected to see between half an inch and an inch of rain Monday, according to the National Weather Service. Locals are encouraged to avoid flooded roads while driving and report flooding to local emergency services.
The National Weather Service also issued a severe thunderstorm watch for all of New York City and parts of New Jersey and New York Monday.
