First 'snatching' case under new BNS section registered at Shahpura police station in Bhopal

: In the first case of 'Snatching' registered under section 304 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at

Shahpura police station

in the city, a bike-borne three miscreants allegedly snatched the mobile phone from 52-year-old man while he stepped out of home for an evening walk on Tuesday night and fled the spot.
Acting on his complaint, Shahpura police registered the first snatching case and started investigations.

Section 304 of BNS defines snatching as a distinct form of theft. Earlier such cases were registered under sections of loot in IPC.
Investigation officer ASI Mahendra Chouksey said that the complainant, Akhilesh Navlakhe, 52, a resident of Aakriti Eco City Colony, works in a private company. He stated in his complaint that on Tuesday evening, he left home for an evening walk. He was carrying his smartphone in his hand and scrolling while walking.

Around 8.30pm, when he reached in front of Green Wood Apartment in Shahpura, a speeding bike-borne three miscreants approached him from behind and fled after snatching his mobile phone from his hand. They committed the incident and fled the spot within seconds.
Subsequently, he approached Shahpura police to lodge a complaint. Police have registered a case and are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify the miscreants.
Further investigations were on.
