NEW DELHI: IndiGo’s record-breaking spree continues unabated. The Rahul Bhatia-founded low cost carrier has become the first Indian carrier to cross the 10-crore passenger mark in a calendar year. It had earlier become the first desi airline to cross Rs 1 lakh crore in market capitalisation and to have over 2,000 daily flights. In a statement, the 17-year-old
IndiGo
says it “has joined a select club of global carriers to operate on such a scale and this development (10 crore passengers in a year) further cements its standing among the 10 largest
airlines
in the world by
passenger traffic
.”
In calendar year 2022, IndiGo had flown 7.8 crore passenger — more than pre-Covid 2019 level.
“IndiGo has become one of the fastest airlines to reach the 10-crore passenger figure. The new milestone represents a 22% increase in passenger traffic for 2023. IndiGo recently achieved another first for India, by becoming the first airline to operate more than 2,000 flights a day. Today, IndiGo operates to 118 destinations, including 32 international destinations,” the statement added.
