Vasco: In a massive fire incident at two adjacent car showrooms-cum-service centres at IDC Verna on Tuesday afternoon, 33 cars of Skoda and Renault companies were incinerated.
No casualties were reported from the site , but the estimated loss is in crores. The fire agencies are yet to prepare the list of damage caused to both companies.
The fire authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the fire and evaluate the full extent of the damages.
According to the fire and emergency service personnel, the fire originated from dry grass at around 3pm, which later spread towards the showrooms.
In all, five fire tenders were pressed into service from Verna, Vasco, Ponda, and Margao, and a quick response tender.
“The fire and emergency services responded quickly and contained the flames. However, as the fire spread across the parked vehicles in no time due to the heavy breeze, it was a difficult task to handle the situation,”said a fire official.
The 33 vehicles destroyed in the devastating fire were brought to the showrooms to get serviced, and some were involved in accidental cases.
