Fire engulfs home in NJ; family’s dog killed: officials

WAYNE, N.J. (PIX11) – A fire engulfed a home in Passaic County, New Jersey, killing a family’s dog Saturday night, officials said.

The fire happened at a home on Lenox Road in Wayne, according to Wayne Fire Company No. 5.

Firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish the flames. Two firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire, according to officials.

“Glad to hear that the family was not home at the time of the fire and all are safe. So very sorry to hear of the loss of the family’s pet,” Wayne Mayor Christopher Vergano said.

Information on the cause of the fire wasn't available.
