February weather outlook for NYC: More snow and cold ahead

NEW YORK (PIX11) – While the groundhog gives one winter forecast, meteorologists might have another.

Forecasters at the Farmer’s Almanac say bitter cold and snow may cast a shadow on February this year. Despite the chill, temperatures are still expected to be slightly above normal for New York, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow showers during the first weekend of February may make groundhogs reluctant to come out and look for their shadows. Partly sunny skies will offer some pockets of warmth amid the chilly air. 

Similarly, the week of the Superbowl is expected to be sunny in New York but still cold with some chances for snow and rain. Watch parties will likely make for a warm indoor escape.

Temperatures for the week of Valentine’s Day will feel milder, possibly giving couples a chance to get outside. However, partly sunny skies will likely be clouded by flurries and showers.

Coming out of President’s Day weekend, it’s expected to be snowy and blustery with bitter cold. The last week of February will likely round out with milder temperatures and some rain in the city.
