Some movies leave a last mark in the audiences’ hearts, and the 2008 musical drama film ‘
Rock On!!
’ is certainly from the very lot. Directed by Abhishek Kapoor, the film marked the successful big-screen debut of
Farhan Akhtar
and TV fame Prachi Desai. Further, the stellar performance of Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami, and
Purab Kohli
, made the film a critical and commercial success, leading to a
sequel
in 2016, ‘Rock On 2’.
Despite the sequel not replicating the success of its predecessor, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of a third installment. Recently, Purab Kohli, who played the charismatic drummer Kedar Zaveri, shared some insights about the potential for ‘
Rock On 3
’ during an interview with News18 Showsha.
When asked about the possibility of a third part, Kohli expressed his enthusiasm for the franchise. "It’s a great franchise. I keep asking Farhan (Akhtar) if it’ll come back for a third part. But there are no discussions on that front as of now," Kohli said, leaving fans both hopeful and in suspense.
The first ‘Rock On!!’ film was a significant hit, establishing a cult following and solidifying its place in Bollywood history. However, the sequel, ‘Rock On 2’, released eight years later, failed to make a similar impact at the box office. Kohli revealed that this setback was particularly hard for him. He had high expectations after his 2013 film ‘Jal’ underperformed, and he had taken a hiatus to focus entirely on ‘Rock On 2’.
Reflecting on that challenging period, Kohli said, "I didn’t take up any other work for one or two years before it and put all my energy into the movie. Since I had high hopes for it, I was heartbroken when it didn’t work out." The failure of ‘Rock On 2’ left him questioning his career direction, especially since he had invested so much hope into the film reviving his trajectory.
Despite the setbacks, Purab Kohli has continued to work in the industry. Recently, he shared the screen with Neha Sharma, Sharib Hashmi, Amruta Khanvilkar, Shruti Seth, and Sushant Divgikar in the TV series ‘36 Days’.
