NEW YORK (PIX11) – The family of Luigi Mangione, the man being held for multiple charges in Pennsylvania, has spoken.
Delegate Nino Mangione, the cousin of Luigi Mangione, sent the following statement regarding the arrest: “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news.”
Luigi Mangione, 26, was apprehended Monday morning in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Mangione has been identified as a person of interest in the killing of United HealthCare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City.
Mangione was spotted in a McDonald’s Monday morning, police say. He provided officials with a fake New Jersey driver’s license and was found to be in possession of a ghost gun, ammunition, and a silencer, according to a criminal complaint.
He was arrested on multiple charges, including forgery and instruments of a crime. Mangione was arraigned Monday evening and is being held without bail.
Officials say they expect charges filed forthwith for homicide. In a press conference Monday evening, Pennsylvania officials said they plan to file a fugitive of justice complaint to extradite Mangione to New York.
