Fabio Wardley will get his dream homecoming fight at his beloved Ipswich Town's Portman Road stadium.
The British heavyweight's bout with America's Jarrell Miller for the WBA interim heavyweight title was confirmed Saturday morning by Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions for June 7 in Ipswich, England.
Wardley vs. Miller will be televised on DAZN worldwide as part of Queensberry's new deal with the streaming company, which kicks off Saturday with Joe Joyce vs. Filip Hrgovic in Manchester.
Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs) is rated as the WBA's No. 1 contender at heavyweight. His clash with Miller is part of a four-man box-off tournament ordered by the WBA, with the winner of Wardley vs. Miller facing the victor of the ordered Kubrat Pulev vs. Michael Hunter bout for the WBA (Regular) championship. Oleksandr Usyk is the WBA (Super) champion at heavyweight.
Wardley, 30, won the British heavyweight title with a third-round TKO of Nathan Gorman in November 2022. He stopped David Adeleye in seven rounds in October 2023 to retain his championship before waging a Fight of the Year contender with Frazer Clarke this past March, which ended in a draw.
Wardley and Clarke met in a highly anticipated rematch on the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 1 undercard this past October, where Wardley made easy work of Clarke, taking him out in the opening round.
Miller (26-1-2, 22 KOs) failed multiple drug tests in the lead-up to his canceled unified heavyweight title fight with Anthony Joshua scheduled for June 2019. "Big Baby" made his comeback to boxing in 2022, picking up three straight wins before being halted by the now-IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in the 10th and final round of an otherwise competitive fight in December 2023.
Miller, 36, has boxed once since his sole career loss to Dubois, fighting to a controversial majority decision draw with Andy Ruiz Jr. on the Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov undercard this past August. The majority of observers felt that Miller was unlucky not to get the nod over Ruiz in that fight.
