In a recent interview, Ayushmann Khurrana spoke about breaking up with then-girlfriend (now wife) Tahira Kashyap after he gained popularity after ‘Roadies’. Now, for the first time, Tahira responded to the actor's statement. In an exclusive chat with IndiaToday.In, Tahira shared that even back then, the couple believed in respecting each other's individuality and that's the secret of their relationship.
Responding to whether she was heartbroken after they parted ways, Tahira said, “I was a strong-headed woman. I have always been one. I didn't reach much into what Ayushmann said. However, I must add that this is why we have lasted for so long. We both respect each other's individuality. We have always done that and continue to do so.”
The couple started dating quite early in life, being each other's first romantic partners. We asked Tahira if it's easier when partners evolve and grow together in a relationship.
“It can go either way. I am not a professional relationship counsellor and I have never had another relationship, so I cannot comment on that. But, I think it all depends on how you are growing, and your interests. As you grow, you become your own person and develop different passions and tastes. With God's grace, we have a lot of commonalities and enjoy common things. Apart from that, we also bond over our love for storytelling and our kids. I must also add that I still find him funny. Many may find his PJs no longer hilarious, but I think they are amazing,” she said with a laugh.
Tahira Kashyap has directed her first feature film, ‘Sharmajee Ki Beti’, which will drop on Prime Video on June 28. While many would feel that she got interested in films because of her actor husband, Tahira had a different story to share.
She shared, "The reason we are both together is because of our love for theatre and dramatics. We were together in high school, and we used to then compete against each other in our individual colleges. We even started our own theatre group, and I wrote my first play at the age of 19. So, the choices were always within me and I think I was attracted to him because we found a conglomerate area to our choices. My love for storytelling and films could have been amplified because the conversations at home are more around this. But I think he's in my environment because of my love for films.”
Tahira and Ayushmann got married on November 1, 2008. The couple is parents to a son named Virajveer and a daughter named Varushka.
