Actor
Vaquar Shaikh
, who is currently seen as Yashdeep in “Anupamaa”, is an active
social media
user. Not only that, he lets the audience peek into his life through vlogs too. He believes that social media consumers love to see
happy pictures
but not anything depressing or unhappy. He stressed that one of the reasons for this can be the stressful lives people live these days.
He said, “During good times, people are there for you, but in bad times, no one is around. So, social media users choose only to share good things. However, I have seen people posting in their moments of grief. They share photos if there is a demise in their family. They may put up a status or ask people to pray for the deceased, and it is fine. Personally, when I lost my father last year, I didn't post, or write anything about it. I was absolutely quiet and numb. It was a very
personal loss
for me, and I didn't want to share it with anyone. Of course, people who knew about it were aware, but I chose not to share it publicly. This is one place where I draw the line,” he said.
“I feel people are not interested in knowing about your sorrows, and they have their own stresses. So, normally, I share good things,” he added.
He called social media a window to a
public figure
’s life and feels that it is much-needed as it not only helps the fans but actors too.
“There used to be a time when it was easy to shield our personal life from the media because there was no interference, so our personal lives were hardly revealed. There were magazines and even in those magazines, they mainly covered stars and Bollywood actors. There were no magazines for television. But now with social media, almost all the actors are active on it, and they share personal pictures as well,” he said.
“They have provided a window for their fans and audience to peek into their personal lives. And because of that, their popularity increases, and it helps actors with getting endorsements. It adds to your business because the more relevant and in the news you are, the more invitations, events, and endorsements you'll receive,” he added.
So where do you draw the line on what to share, and what not to? “It depends on the individual how much they choose to show. There are times when they post personal pictures but with legitimate planning. However, I don't have anything to hide, I post whatever I have,” he said, adding, “when someone puts themselves on a public platform, they want to put their best foot forward.”
Vaquar runs a YouTube channel called where he posts family vlogs and travel vlogs. Sharing details about it he said, “When shooting vlogs, I ensure that we do not capture things that should not be shown, but we maintain the authenticity of the vlog. I keep them real. I am like an open book. There is nothing for me to hide from the audience.”
The actor shared that he tries to strike a balance between being open with his fans and protecting his personal life. He said, “On Instagram and Facebook, I focus on myself as Vaquar Shaikh, an actor, and my individual self. However, on YouTube, it's me and my family. That's the difference I've maintained.”
Speaking of family, he also shared his views on how actors these days try to hide their kids’ faces on social media.
“It is a trend now. Couples reveal their babies after three months, but before that, if they put photographs of their babies on social media, they will often hide their faces with an emoji or a heart. There is a belief that one should not show your baby's face for a particular time. Everything is more open, and some individuals share pictures of their newborn babies just 10 days after birth, while some believe it should not be revealed too soon and choose to hide it, and there is no problem with that. It should not be considered an issue, because eventually, they also reveal the baby's face after some time,” he said.
