NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Former President Donald Trump claimed the charges against him were "rigged" even before the jury reached a decision in his New York hush money trial.
"Mother Teresa could not beat these charges. But we'll see," Trump said Wednesday just after the jury started its deliberations.
Jurors began deliberations after receiving instructions about the law governing the hush money case and what they can consider as they evaluate the former president's guilt and innocence.
Trump once again took aim at Judge Juan Merchan, saying he is "conflicted." President Joe Biden and actor Robert De Niro, who made remarks Tuesday outside the courthouse, were also targets of Trump's comments Wednesday at the courthouse.
"He’s a fool," the former president said of De Niro.
Prosecutors say Trump falsified internal business records to cover up hush money payments tied to an alleged scheme to bury stories that might torpedo his 2016 White House bid. He has denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to all 34 felony counts.
Even still, Trump on Wednesday said he is still confident he'll win the presidency in 2024.
“We're gonna win this election. Nov. 5 is going to be the most important day in the history of our country," Trump said.
